The Woman King is an upcoming American historical epic drama starring Viola Davis and Thuso Mbedu. The film was directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and John Boyega are among the cast members. It is based on the true story of the Dahomey Amazons, an all-female military regiment of the Kingdom of Dahomey. This film was produced by Davis and Bello and written by Dana Stevens. The Woman King is set to premiere at the Toronto international film festival and will hit theaters on September 16 by Sony pictures entertainment.
The story revolves around General Nanisca of the Dahomey Amazons and Nawi, a young recruit. It tells the story of how they “fought enemies who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threatened to destroy everything they had lived for.”
The music was composed by Terence Blanchard. The cinematography and editing were handled by Polly Morgan and Terilyn A, respectively. Shropshire. The film was produced under the banner of TriStar Pictures, Welle Entertainment, JuVee Productions, Jack Blue Productions, and Entertainment One.
