Janelle James is a stand-up comedian, writer, and actor from the United States. Her writing credits include Black Monday, and she has appeared as a performer on the shows Crashing, Corporate, and Central Park. In 2017, she published her debut comedy album, Black and Mild. She was named one of Variety’s “10 Comics to Watch” (2020). James recently plays principal Ava Coleman on ABC’s Abbott Elementary, for which she was nominated for a TCA Award, a Black Reel Award, a Dorian Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
